Jumbo’s Drive-in

Jumbo’s Drive-in was a local restaurant based at 1006 E Main Street in Mandan. Jumbo’s was established by “Jumbo Jim” Hammes in the 1950s. It was perhaps best known for its Sloppy Joe. Today, its Sloppy Joe sauce is available at certain local retailers.

Its founder later established Mandan’s Dairy Queen next door. Both were operated concurrently until Jumbo’s changed formats in 1979 to a family restaurant called Trails West, which closed in 1983.

The former Jumbo’s location is now home to Railway Credit Union.
