Bismarck National Bank

Bismarck National Bank became established on March 13, 1882. Notable stockholders at the time of founding included John Wetherby, Alexander McKenzie, William Harmon, and J.W. Raymond (also its president). George Flannery is later installed as bank president. Construction commenced that June for its $35,000 building – known as the Raymond Block – on the northwest corner of Third Street and Main Avenue. It was the city’s largest private building upon completion and one of the few to escape the 1898 fire.

The bank operates today as BNC National Bank, rebranded in 1995 upon acquiring Metropolitan Federal Bank from Minneapolis-based First Bank System Inc.
