North Dakota Economy Grows 7.1% in 2010; Tops The Nation

Given the huge oil boom in the western part of the state, it’s probably no big surprise that North Dakota topped the nation in economic growth in 2010 at 7.1%.

The oil boom definitely gets the greatest credit for the state’s economic boost, but we’ll take the growth (and bragging rights) nonetheless.

New York, Indiana, Massachusetts, and West Virginia rounded out the top 5, behind North Dakota. Somewhat surprisingly, nearby Montana and Wyoming were among the lowest growth states in 2010, with the latter seeing a decline and bottoming the list.

The country as a whole grew by 2.9%.
