Cashman Nursery

Cashman Nursery is a long-time locally owned landscaper and garden supply retailer.

History

Thomas E. Cashman founded the first Cashman Nursery in 1895 when he purchased five acres near Owatonna, Minnesota to start growing nursery stock. By the 1920s, his operation had grown to encompass 1,800 acres and over 200 salesmen, who covered eight states.

Cashman’s son, Thomas Junior (Eugene), started his own nursery business in 1941 in Fergus Falls and Minot. He had 90 salesmen.

From there, Eugene’s son, Tim, entered the business in the early 1960s from Minot. Tim’s younger brothers later established their own Cashman Nurseries, Jerry in Bozeman and Dan in Bismarck, in 1975. Both are still in operation as of 2019.

Marketing

Cashman Nursery is noted for its two taglines involving its phone number and location: 222-3333 (“Tree-Tree-Tree-Tree”) and “East on Ten, North of the Pen” (referencing its location on U.S. Highway 10 immediately north of the North Dakota State Penitentiary).
