North Dakota Seeks “No Child Left Behind” Waiver With Other States

Simle Middle School

North Dakota is joining a wave of other states in accepting President Obama’s offer to allow states the chance to retract ten important provisions of the controversial education law, “No Child Left Behind,” which was passed by President Bush in 2002.

In exchange for the waiver, states must submit a proposal that includes a plan to meet specific requirements in place of the provisions that will be voided with the waiver, including a system of accountability and implementing new guidelines in readying students for college.

Nearby Minnesota and South Dakota are also planning to accept the waiver.
