Armed Services Recruiting Center Fire Allegedly Started By Marine Recruiter

A recent fire incident at the Armed Services Recruiting Center, located off Front Avenue and Washington Street, may have been set intentionally. The alleged arson… a recruiter working at the center.

29-year-old Anthony DeGroot has been accused of setting seven fires at the recruiting center on the night of December 26. Along with Class B felony arson, he has also been charged with a Class A misdemeanor related to reporting false information.

According to the Bismarck Tribune, a police affidavit mentions that a man witnessed DeGroot, wrapped in duct tape, exit the building and fall to the ground. Police later administered CPR on DeGroot.

During the investigation, Police discovered a roll of duct tape in DeGroot’s desk that matched the type wrapped around DeGroot. As well, one of the fires had been set inside DeGroot’s locker and another at his desk.

Bond has been set at 10% of $5,000.
