Bismarck Police Release Crime & Traffic Statistics

Bismarck Police have released the 2014 Crime and Traffic report. The report is broken out into several sections based on the severity of the offenses. Group A crimes, deemed the most serious offenses, increased by 4.5% overall in 2014. Group B crimes, which includes misdemeanors and miscellaneous offenses, actually decreased 3.5%.

Fridays and Saturdays topped the week for offenses, with Mondays coming in lowest.

Overall Crime Statistics

In the “Crimes Against Persons” category, overall crime declined 10.87% from 2013, according to the report. Kidnapping, Forcible Rape, and such crimes as Forcible Fondling and Statutory Rape saw increases, whereas Simple Assault and Aggravated Assault saw decreases. Crimes Against Persons offenses are 12.93% below the five-year average.

Offenses increased 8.45% overall in the “Crimes Against Property” category. Only Arson, Burglary, Robbery, and Gambling-Related offenses saw decreases in the category. Crimes Against Property offenses are 10.85% above the five-year average. Drug violations increased by 13.3%.

Crime in other groups mostly decreased in 2014.

Adult Arrests increased 2.51% in 2014, above the five-year average. On the other hand, Juvenile citations decreased 21.83% in 2014 to below the five-year average.

Traffic & Parking

Parking citations saw a dramatic spike in 2014, increasing 92.3%. Traffic citations decreased 4.68%. Traffic crashes also decreased in 2014, with Tuesdays seeing the highest number of crashes and Sundays the lowest. Not surprising, January was the highest month for traffic crashes.
