Aetna agreed to the acquisition to increase its\u00a0Medicaid and Medicare business since Coventry is one of the largest providers of each program.<\/p>\n<p>Both insurance companies have maintained a presence in Bismarck for some time now. Aetna first came to Bismarck in 1990. Since that time, Aetna&#8217;s Bismarck operations have grown significantly from 35 employees to 470 in 2010 (according to a <a href=\"http:\/\/bismarcktribune.com\/news\/local\/article_0a336fba-b552-11df-afca-001cc4c03286.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Bismarck Tribune<\/em> article<\/a>). Coventry opened its Bismarck office in 2002. Both companies are among the region&#8217;s top employers (Aetna is ranked #7,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmda.org\/about\/employers.asp\" target=\"_blank\">according to the Bismarck-Mandan Development Association<\/a>).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2676\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bismarckcafe.com\/blogs\/bismarck-pictures-miscellaneous\/aetna-2\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2676\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2676\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2676\" title=\"Aetna Healthcare Office Building\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bismarckcafe.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/aetna-2-200x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2676\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aetna Healthcare<\/p><\/div>\n<p>At this time, there are no plans to change daily operations at either of the companies&#8217; Bismarck locations.<\/p>\n<p>The deal still requires shareholder and regulatory approval before finalizing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two of Bismarck&#8217;s biggest employers are merging.
