The amount of signatures submitted is more than twice the required number of valid signatures needed.<\/p>\n<p>Since the petitions were not submitted before the deadline to get the issue on the November ballot, a special election to determine the results is expected, provided enough petitions are deemed valid. If the issue does go to public vote, the planned November 1 deadline for the extended smoking ban will be delayed until that time.<\/p>\n<p>As a strong opponent of the involuntary smoking ban, I applaud the efforts taken by this group to put this issue to a public vote.
