{"id":22072,"date":"2013-04-23T15:37:19","date_gmt":"2013-04-23T20:37:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bismarckcafe.com\/blogs\/?p=22072"},"modified":"2013-04-23T15:38:06","modified_gmt":"2013-04-23T20:38:06","slug":"sweepstakes-fraud-warning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bismarckcafe.com\/blogs\/22072\/sweepstakes-fraud-warning","title":{"rendered":"Sweepstakes Fraud Warning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Via press release:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bismarck Police are warning residents to be aware of a telephone sweepstakes scam where callers are pretending to be representatives from Publishers Clearing House.\u00a0 The scammers are telling the victims that they have won a large amount of money and a car.\u00a0 In order to claim their \u201cprize\u201d, the victims are instructed to wire payment for taxes on the winnings, often to foreign destinations.\u00a0 They are directed to obtain pre-paid money cards or send Western Union or MoneyGram payments.<\/p>\n<p>The Publishers Clearing House website states that they will, \u201c<i>NEVER ask you to send money to enter a sweepstakes, claim a prize, or to pay a fee, tax or deposit.
