{"id":171688,"date":"2017-05-18T21:42:13","date_gmt":"2017-05-19T02:42:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bismarckcafe.com\/blogs\/?p=171688"},"modified":"2017-05-18T21:54:10","modified_gmt":"2017-05-19T02:54:10","slug":"recall-effort-of-mayor-seminar-fails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bismarckcafe.com\/blogs\/171688\/recall-effort-of-mayor-seminar-fails","title":{"rendered":"Recall Effort of Mayor Seminary Fails"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThere will be no Mayoral recall election.\u201d That was the response of Bismarck City Administrator Keith Hunke in announcing the outcome of a petition to recall Mayor Mike Seminary.<\/p>\n<p>The petition, submitted April 18, was determined to be disqualified after declaring\u00a0numerous entries as invalid.<\/p>\n<p>According to an official press release, the quantity and type of inconsistencies lead to the city seeking counsel from the Secretary of State and Bureau of Criminal Investigation.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, only 72% of the 2,405 signatures were deemed valid&#8230; short of the required minimum. The unqualified entries included, as outlined in the press release:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>305 due to non-Bismarck or non-existing addresses<\/li>\n<li>198 due to unqualified petition circulators<\/li>\n<li>136 due to incomplete or illegible entries<\/li>\n<li>29 due to duplications and non-eligible voters<\/li>\n<li>667 the total number of disqualified signatures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mayor Seminary:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m incredibly appreciative of all the hard work, over-time and attention to detail City staff put into this effort. I\u2019m the Mayor of the City of Bismarck and we have a lot of work to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seminary, who previously shared concerns over the costly effort of\u00a0a recall election so close to the end of his term,\u00a0was easily elected mayor in 2014 while facing\u00a0no formal opposition for the position.
