Gordmans – the regional chain of off-price department stores – filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week.<\/p>\n

The chain’s future appears\u00a0unclear, at this time. Despite a message posted prominently on the retailer’s website stating it’s\u00a0“business as usual,” several news outlets<\/a>\u00a0are reporting that full liquidation is likely, with a liquidation deal already in place\u00a0\u201cfor the sale in\u00a0liquidation of the inventory and other assets of Gordmans\u2019 retail stores and distribution centers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Nebraska-based retailer posted losses in five of the past six quarters.<\/p>\n

Gordmans only recently entered the Bismarck landscape –\u00a0anchoring\u00a0Phase I of Hay Creek Shops<\/a>\u00a0in 2015. The chain operates more than 100 stores, including four in North Dakota.<\/p>\n

UPDATE (4\/03\/2017):<\/em> KFYR-TV reports<\/a> that only 48 of the chain’s 105 stores will\u00a0shutter, with 50 likely to remain open. Court records apparently indicate that all four of the chain’s North Dakota stores will remain open.
