{"id":141362,"date":"2016-05-09T20:27:39","date_gmt":"2016-05-10T01:27:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bismarckcafe.com\/blogs\/?p=141362"},"modified":"2016-05-09T20:27:39","modified_gmt":"2016-05-10T01:27:39","slug":"united-way-considers-uses-for-saxvik-elementary-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bismarckcafe.com\/blogs\/141362\/united-way-considers-uses-for-saxvik-elementary-building","title":{"rendered":"United Way Considers Uses For Saxvik Elementary Building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bismarck\u00a0School Board <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bismarckschools.org\/district\/news\/detail.asp?newsID=3208\" target=\"_blank\">announced via\u00a0the BPS website<\/a> that they have received a letter of interest for\u00a0the Saxvik Elementary building, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bismarckcafe.com\/blogs\/139787\/saxvik-elementary-to-close-buildings-fate-undetermined\">which\u00a0the district intends to close following this school year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The letter came from United Way,\u00a0who intends to use the facility to establish a Family Success Center, which would provide affordable after-school care and other services.\u00a0Other potential uses outlined include\u00a0&#8220;a preschool, day care, mentoring programs, parenting classes, family coaches, and job training.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The building would also provide space to pack and store the United Way Backpacks that are sent home weekly to more than 780 local students and their families.<\/p>\n<p>According to the announcement, the intent is to\u00a0&#8220;repurpose Saxvik in a way that adds value to the neighborhood.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>About Saxvik<\/h3>\n<p>Opened in 1952 at a cost of $133,862, it is one of the oldest school buildings in the district.\u00a0Bismarck High School, whose current building opened in 1935, is the oldest. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bismarckcafe.com\/blogs\/wiki\/william-moore-school\">Will-More<\/a> is the district\u2019s oldest elementary building, having been built\u00a0in 1950-1951.<\/p>\n<p>The school was named after\u00a0H.O.
