Over the past week, both Bismarck and Mandan City Commissions have moved towards passing ordinances that will ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors. The two city ordinances also ban the use by minors of the vapor-like cigarette substitute, which has grown in popularity in recent years.

The Bismarck City Commission unanimously passed the ordinance last week and Mandan’s Commission unanimously approved to formally vote on the ordinance March 4.

Violators of either law can see fines up to $500 per violation. The bans include all devices intended to simulate smoking cigarettes, regardless of the presence of nicotine.
