New Ordinance Allows Food Trucks, Street Vendors

Last night, the Bismarck City Commission unanimously approved an ordinance that guarantees the rights of street vendors and food trucks to use public sidewalks, streets, and grounds. There are some restrictions, however.

A permit will be required. Additionally, such entities will be restricted to three areas in downtown: two of which located in alleys and the third in a city-operated parking lot. Originally, a time restriction of 5pm-2am was planned; however, this was scraped after hearing objections. The city’s traffic engineer can still enforce such requirements.

Vendors can also setup on private property with permission from the owner.
